Figure Illustrations

This week in my digital clothed figure painting class we were assigned to take 8 drawings from class, tightening them up and paint/illustrate them. I got 7 here (the first one looked like it got put through the meat grinder). This gave me a chance to really explore more digitally. Experimenting with different color schemes and rendering techniques. Wish I had pushed things more. Guess that'll have to wait till next time.

Enjoy,
Thanks

Self Portrait and Hand Studies

Did a self portrait for class in Photoshop. Tried to go with something more flat and graphic but didn't pan out the way I intended (does it ever?). Had fun playing around and making it into a more cartoony style. Also some hand sketches for the same class. Haven't sketched in Photoshop in a long while. So from left to right, top to bottom you can see I became a little more comfortable with it as I went along. Hands can be daunting but I had fun doing these. Might have to go back in and paint some of these.

Couple paintings before school starts

I did these two to get me back in the swing of things before I go full steam into my last semester.

The first one is a portrait I did from a photo I got inspired by. Got to experiment with a number of different tools in Photoshop with this one.

Next we got Oakland Athletics rising start Jemile Weeks. I haven't done a lot of portraits of people with darker complexions, so this was certainly a challenge. Can't use the normal tricks that are used for Caucasians. Gave me a chance to explore and learn. Someday I'll learn how to tackle dreads.

And for whatever reason, when you maximize the second portrait, it makes him look orange...

Major Mojo

A flat piece I did from a concept logo sketch I did. Got more more acquainted with the pen tool in PS. I'll see what else I can do with him.

Character concepted from last year

Few characters developed in class about a year ago. Gas masks are fun to design.
